SELF LOCK FRAMES

Self Lock frames are light and easy to handle and are ideal to gain quick access to elevated positions. These towers can be erected in a short time by two unskilled workers.

Uses of towers as access:

  • Electrical work
  • Plumbing
  • Seating stands
  • Maintenance
  • Plastering
  • Painting
  • Column erection

TOWER HEIGHTS:

Below is a list of the maximum free standing heights allowed based on maximum base-to height ratio:

Inside static towers 4 x min. base dimension
Inside mobile towers 3.5 x min. base dimension
Outside static towers 3.5 x min. base dimension
Outside mobile towers 3 x min. base dimension

TYING IN

When the safe base-to-height ratios are being exceeded or there are high lateral loads the tower should be tied securely to the structure with scaffold tubes and fittings.

NOTE:

Towers can extend to 30m (150’) if tied in correctly.

MOBILE TOWERS

Mobile tower castors must be locked when the tower is in use. The tower can be moved on jack castors which must be locked when the tower is in use.

THINGS TO TAKE CAUTION WITH:

  • Be aware of high winds when working outside.
  • Always tie the tower to a building in exposed conditions
  • Never leave an unsecured tower unattended

MOVING YOUR TOWER:

  • Ensure that the tower stays upright.
  • Take extra care when moving ur tower over uneven surfaces
  • Always push the tower from the base and make sure the tower is free from all debris (tools etc)
  • When you have relocated your tower, re-level it and lock the castors

PROCEDURE FOR ERECTION:

  1. Set out the base plates/base jacks/castor
  2. Place the tie-bars as shown
  3. Place the frames at right angles to tie-bars.
  4. Insert the plan brace diagonally across the frames
  5. Add on frames at right angles to the frames below.
  6. Ensure proper locking action between frames. (detail ‘a’)
  7. The plan brace spacing must not exceed three frames height.
  8. Fix knee brace to first two bottom frames.
  9. Two frames with the aid of two tie-bars are used as hand-rails above the working platforms.
